Cotton, my favorite part of your post is this: "I've found with my adult children, that when I release everything but the love, I consequently arrive at the best closeness with them." As the Beatles said, sometimes love truly is "all you need."

WHEN WE'VE COMPLETED FORMATIVE PARENTING AND THEY ARE GROWN: WHAT THEY NEED FROM US NOW...

A friend recently emailed me to vent frustration over his grown son's seeming lack of ambition, gratitude and direction. As I typed my reply, it occurred to me that this may be something of which we all stand reminding. My reply follows:

"I understand your anguish completely. First, I want to tell you that your son belongs to a different generation than ours, and he is much aligned with many of his contemporaries. Like Kahlil Gibran's "The Prophet" shares, we will never follow them, nor their d… Continue

Mr. Poo...update

Just wanted to post a pic of our little man, Adam, who survived the nightmare of E coli, and although he will need monitoring for five whole years, he is thriving, and is the love of my life.
Thanks to all of you who sent support, concern and prayers!

Occasionally, a potential parent/client's request infers a suppressed need to hold onto that cash, or that they may have been coerced into this investigation. In respect/responsibility, my response provides them with a door "out" of any imagined guilt. (Should I have my head examined? There are a number of "envelopes wi… Continue
